Kalmunai Municipal Council (KMC) is the local authority for the city of Kalmunai in south-eastern Sri Lanka.〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://www.gov.lk/gov/index.php?option=com_org&id=1035&task=showdetails&Itemid=0&lang=en )〕 KMC is responsible for providing a variety of local public services including roads, sanitation, drains, housing, libraries, public parks and recreational facilities. It has 19 members elected using the open list proportional representation system. ==History== Kalmunai Rural Council (Kalmunai Pradeshiya Sabha) was created in 1987 as part of the nationwide local government re-organisation. Kalmunai was promoted to municipality in 2001. Kalmunai was administered by special commissioners until 2006 when local elections were held.
